Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most about adjustable louvre awnings, aluminium ceilings, and carports and patio covers — answered plainly. Anything else, ask us directly.
Adjustable Louvre Awnings
What are adjustable louvre awnings?
Outdoor shading structures with slats (louvres) that tilt to control sunlight, ventilation and rain protection. Ours open to 82° and close completely against the weather.
How do the louvres work?
The blades tilt open or closed — manually with a crank handle, or motorised. Our gearbox takes the blades from fully open to fully closed in one and a half turns, and parks them at any angle in between.
Are louvre awnings waterproof?
Fully closed, a quality louvre awning is water-resistant: rain is channelled off the blades into the integrated gutter system and away through downpipes, rather than dripping through.
Can they withstand strong winds?
Yes — they're engineered for South African conditions, from highveld storms to the Cape south-easter. In genuinely extreme weather we recommend closing the blades.
What are they made from?
Pre-painted, baked aluminium — lightweight, corrosion-resistant and durable, with stainless steel and brass in the gearbox. No rust, no repainting.
Manual or motorised?
Both. Manual systems use a light hand crank; motorised systems work from a remote or wall switch. The gearbox can be motorised later if you change your mind.
Do they insulate?
They cut heat gain substantially by blocking direct sun while still promoting airflow — the patio and the rooms behind it run noticeably cooler in summer.
Can I choose the size and colour?
Every awning is made to measure, in your choice of 23 pre-painted aluminium colours.
How much do adjustable louvre awnings cost?
It depends on size and specification (manual vs motorised). As a guide, expect roughly R1,500 to R4,500 per square metre in South Africa. A free on-site quote pins it down exactly.
What maintenance do they need?
Very little — an occasional wash with water and mild soap, and a periodic glance at the moving parts and drainage. The materials themselves are maintenance-free.
Aluminium Ceilings
What are aluminium ceilings?
Ceiling systems made from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminium panels. Ours double as a weatherproof roof: flat ceiling from below, watertight aluminium roof from above.
What are the benefits?
Fire-resistant, moisture- and rust-resistant, lightweight yet durable, low-maintenance, and available in a range of designs and finishes.
Where are they used?
Patios and verandas most of all, plus offices, shops, hospitality and humid rooms like kitchens and bathrooms where gypsum boards struggle.
Are aluminium ceilings waterproof?
Yes — highly moisture-resistant, and our patio version runs a gutter-and-frame around all four sides so the covered area below stays dry.
Can I fit lighting?
Yes. The solid aluminium plane takes recessed downlighters beautifully — we fit them during installation.
How do they compare to traditional ceilings?
Against gypsum or PVC: stronger, more durable, easier to maintain, and unbothered by moisture. No sagging, no staining, no repainting.
How much do aluminium ceilings cost?
Typically R250 to R1,200 per square metre in South Africa depending on design and finish. We quote exactly after measuring.
What maintenance do they require?
Minimal — a wipe or rinse to remove dust now and then.
Carports and Patio Covers
What are carports and patio covers?
A carport is a roofed structure on posts that shelters vehicles; a patio cover is the same idea over an outdoor living space. We build both in pre-painted aluminium, with polycarbonate panels where you want light through.
Do I need planning permission?
Sometimes — it depends on your municipality, the size of the structure and how close it sits to boundaries. Check with your local authority; we can advise on what's typical when we quote.
What are the benefits?
A carport protects your vehicle from sun, rain and hail and cuts maintenance; a patio cover shades the entertainment area, protects furniture from UV, and adds usable living space.
Can they be customised?
Fully — size, design, colour and roofing material are all made to fit your property. Flat, sloped, or tied into the existing roofline.
How much do carports and patio covers cost?
As a broad guide: carports from about R5,000 to R20,000 and patio covers from R7,000 to R30,000, depending on size, span and material. The on-site quote is free and exact.
Are they weatherproof?
Yes — engineered for rain, hail and UV. Aluminium and polycarbonate in particular shrug off the elements, and rainwater is managed through proper gutters and downpipes.
How long does installation take?
Typically 1–3 days on site once your structure is manufactured, depending on the size and complexity of the design.
Do they add value to my home?
Yes — covered parking and a finished outdoor entertainment area both lift kerb appeal and resale value.
What maintenance is involved?
Occasional cleaning of the roof and gutters and a periodic check of the supports. Aluminium needs no painting or sealing.
