Louvres plus a windbreak
A terrace partway up the valley's slope — tiled roofs below, mountain directly behind, and weather that changes its mind by the hour, usually announced by wind.
The fix came in two parts: white adjustable louvres overhead for the sun-then-rain routine, and a slatted screen wall on the windward side that takes the bite out of the gusts without boxing the terrace in. Wicker furniture stays out all year now.
