Seventeen years on this balcony and counting
Our archive keeps us honest: this Houghton balcony — aluminium ceiling awning, built-in downlighters, roll-up drop blinds on the posts — was photographed in May 2009, the month we finished it.
It's the same system we install today, and that's the point of it: baked aluminium overhead, a gutter in the fascia, blinds that still roll after seventeen years of highveld storms. In a suburb that thinks in generations, the structures should too.
